A weekend in San Francisco...
Nothing is more exciting then plans of an upcoming trip. This was especially true for my trip to San Francisco last weekend. My mom and I made plans to visit the city a couple mo
nths ago and time seemed to be standing still. Finally, it was time to pack a bag and head out on Saturday morning. Our excursion was supposed to start around 8:00 am but we actually got on the road a little after 9:00. This was no setback as the city was a mere 3.5 hours away. After stopping for coffee and cash we got on our way. A little over half way we had to make a pit stop and came across these beautiful orange flowers. My mom and I were snapping photos on the side of the road in a hotel parking lot but we both just could not resist. Now, we just need to figure out what kind of flowers they were. We realized we were to
tally distracted and got ourselves back in the car and continued our journey. We hit so much traffic and passed literally 30 police officers but made decent time. After paying the $4.00 toll for the bay bridge, we turned up the music and felt like we had finally arrived. Until we got of at the wrong exit (thanks to me) and ended up in horrendous traffic and blocked off roads. After what should have taken at most 15 minutes we got to our hotel an hour later. Our room was ready and we were upgraded to a junior suite! So cool! The Maxwell Hotel in Union Square has recently been renovated and changed to the Hotel Frank. Me likey Frank! The room was about $100 a night and worth much more. "Award-winning interior designer Thomas Schoos brilliantly re-interpreted the old and new elements of the 100 year old hotel into a seamlessly integrated blend of contemporary and time-honored design." We were really impressed with what we saw in our room but thought it was time to move on. It was about 2:00 pm and we hadn't stopped for a meal. So starving and ready for an adventure, we decided to start our day in Haight/Ashbury. We started our journey in Haight at a smoke shop. It was pretty crazy but the hippie
woman behind the counter recommended a great restaurant called the Blue Front. My mom and I both thought we wanted Mediterranean but after getting to the restaurant be both ordered a sandwich and salad combo. It was so delicious, either that or we were so hungry we would have scarfed down anything. We regrouped and we ready to take on Haight Street. We went in to many different stores and things were a little too crazy for us. We saw the highest club kid boots, some wild outfits at American Apparel, and the best looking tie dyed shirts I have ever seen. Once we had enough we decided to head back to Union Square to get a little more shopping in before our 8:00 dinner reservation. We spent at least an hour in H&M and I got some really cool accessories. We then made
our way to the million story Forever 21 and were running out of time. With our new outfits ready to go we went back to our room to get ready for dinner. We had dinner at E&O Trading Co. It was really relaxed, sort of similar to a Dai Bai Dang. My mom ordered a Lemon Basil Martini and I ordered a Mojito and they were both to die for. For dinner we did family style and ate way too much. Half way through our meal we were both totally exhausted and planned on going back to the room to pass out. But, in the taxi on the way home we decided to stop at Johnny Foley's Irish Pub for a drink. We had a great time there drinking Chimay and dancing to a live band. The next morning we got up and had breakfast near our hotel then made our way to the destination I had been looking forward to the most, Thriftown. Thriftown wasn't
really what I expected. The store itself was packed with stuff but nothing that tickled my fancy. The neighborhood around Thrifttown was really scary, I was even afraid to pull out my camera to snap a pic of the Thrifttown sign. I was ready to get the heck out of there as soon as we got out of the car. Our day was going by really quickly but we packed in 2 museums and dinner at a Thai res
taurant before we headed home. It was a great weekend and I had an amazing time hanging out with my mom. My favorite part was the Yves Saint Laurent exhibit at the De Young Museum. My mom forced me to go (I was exhausted) but it ended up being my favorite thing. http://www.ysldeyoung.org/ "The de Young is proud to present the exclusive United States presentation of the special exhibition Yves Saint Laurent, which celebrates the life of Yves Saint Laurent and showcases forty years of creativity by the Maison Haute Couture Yves Saint Laurent, whose unique style blends references to the world of art with allusions to pop culture and social rev
olutions." This Exhibit was so interesting. Who knew how much time, creativity, and awareness went into making clothes; these pieces were masterpieces. It was so incredibly amazing. What a great exhibit! Well, this blog is a lot longer then I intended but it really was a fabulous weekend! I love my mom! Thank you so much for everything, I had a great time!!! And, I can't wait to get back to the Warhol Live Exhibit with Tommy! That was simply awesome also!!! http://www.warhollivesf.org/
