Cinco De Drinko.... Or Drinko De Mayo... Which do you prefer?

Well, I got to thinking today. I have celebrated Cinco de Mayo maybe differently then others. May 5 is my grandpa Bob's birthday. So, I remember going to Bob & Sue's house each Cinco De Mayo and enjoying chile releno and enchiladas, followed by flan or some other dessert. Now that I work at D&D there is always a big Cinco De Mayo luncheon. Today we had lunch catered by Chapala Grill, which was an amazing spread. Enchiladas, chile verde, fajitas, nachos, rice, beans, salad, chips and salsa galore, and you can't forget the cervezas. On Cinco De Mayo we are allowed to have a beer at work, how cool!!! : ) And to end the luncheon we always have a grand raffle. Patron, Don Julio, Coronas, Dos Equis, Margaritas, and gift cards were given out left and right! I was lucky enough to get a 12 pack of Dos Equis Amber, yummo!

So, after all this celebrating, I wanted to find out why were started celebrating, thanks to Wikipedia, this is what I came up with:

Cinco de Mayo (Spanish for "fifth of May") is a regional holiday in Mexico, primarily celebrated in the state of Puebla, with some limited recognition in other parts of Mexico. The holiday commemorates the Mexican army's unlikely victory over French forces at the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862, under the leadership of Mexican General Ignacio Zaragoza SeguĂn. The outnumbered Mexicans defeated a much better-equipped French army that had not been defeated in almost 50 years.
Cinco de Mayo is not "an obligatory federal holiday" in Mexico, but rather a holiday that can be observed voluntarily.
While Cinco de Mayo has limited significance nationwide in Mexico, the date is observed in the
United States and other locations around the world as a celebration of Mexican heritage and pride.

So, looks like Americans wanted another reason to party, so Happy Cinco de Drinko!!!
